Better than Netflix PDF Print E-mail

Information is king and media is front and center. Whether we're talking DVDs or audio books, we all like our media fix.

What if I told that you could get music, movies, magazines, audio books, digital books, and even traditional books for free. How you ask? By using the best kept secret in town: your local library system.

Get in on the Secret

Most local library systems allow you to reserve and renew media online. The interlibrary database will give you access to an impressive collection of old and new media and send it right to your local branch.

Note that when you reserve a media you are put in a queue. Your queue position depends on the popularity of the media and how early you got yourself on a list.

Some library systems give you up to 75 media you can have in the queue at any given time. Because you’ll be on the waiting list for some items, you won’t receive all 75 items at once. They will trickle according to your position in the queue. You might want to read that again. Chances are you’re missing out on something and don’t even realize it.

Search your favorite online engine for inspiration: whether 500 Greatest Albums of All Time or IMDb's Top 250 movies, chances are there’s a list online that will strike your funny bone. Or just browse Amazon. Then turn around and get it from the library. If it happens to be a digital media you can even burn yourself a copy of it for free. But that’s illegal, so you don’t actually want to do that.

Get Carded

If you don t already have a card, track down the nearest library online and get yourself one.

I'd like to hear what you use for your media fix. Netflix? Blockbuster? Or are you an online Pirate?

Testimonials

Doug Pierce

I am pleased to recommend Phil Scanlan without reservation.

For the past couple of years, Phil has been our Web Technician/Master at The Crossing.

Phil is passionate about his work and communicates his considerable knowledge and expertise with clarity, honesty and sensitivity.

Moreover, in our case, he is able to break down complex technical issues and jargon to a level even a neophyte and/or technologically challenged person can understand.  His goal is always to make things simpler and user friendly while unleashing more possibilities to further the reach, use and functionality of the web.  The fact that he can do all of this without compromising the integrity of the mission of the organization—in our case---a small non-profit--- is amazing.

Phil is a person of the highest integrity who brings incredible gifts and commitment to his work.

Respectfully,

Douglas M Pierce
